  1. 2 cups maida
  2. ½ tsp turmeric
  3. ¼ tsp salt
  4. ¼ cup oil Water for knead
  5. 1 cup washed & soaked chana dal(30 mins)
  6. 1 cup powdered jaggery
  7. 1/4 cup fresh grated Coconut (optional)
  8. 4-5 Green Cardamom
  9. 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder
  10. 1 tbsp water
  11. as required Butterpaper/Baking sheet/banana leaf Oil/ghee

Steps to make to make Dal sweet paratha/Kadale bele obbattu/ bele holige /Puran Poli

  1. STEP 1: Outer Dough preparation:(for 12 holiges)

    Ingredients:
    2 cups maida
    ½ tsp turmeric
    ¼ tsp salt
    ¼ cup oil
    Water for kneading

    Method:
    Mix maida,salt,turmeric along with required amount of water & knead a soft dough. Soak it in oil.Cover & keep for 3 hrs.
  2. STEP 2: Hoorna or sweet Filling:
    Ingredients:
    1 cup washed & soaked chana dal(30 mins)
    1 cup powdered jaggery(can increase or reduce as per your liking)
    ¼ cup fresh grated Coconut (optional)
    4-5 Green Cardamom
    ¼ tsp nutmeg powder
    1 tbsp water

    Method:
    1.Pressure cook dal with 3-4 cups water,¼ tsp salt,turmeric,2 drops of oil for 4 whistles.
    2.Once pressure is released, strain the chana dal and retain the dal water for obbattu saaru or rasam if you want.
  3. 3.Grind the dal along with coconut, green cardamom, nutmeg powder to a paste.
    4.Melt jaggery along with 1 tbsp of water on medium flame.
    5.Add the dal paste & add ghee. Cook until moisture evaporates & mixture thickens. (Just enough to make hoorna balls!)
    6.Let the mixture cool.
  4. Holige making
    1. Divide the dough into 12 roundels. Make 12 ball sized hoornas.
    2. Apply oil onto the butterpaper or banana leaf, place the dough and flatten it with your palms. Then place the hoorna on the dough & pinch the sides & cover the hoorna with dough. Then flatten it with your palm.
  5. Then using a rolling pin greased with oil, slowly roll from centre to the corner until desired thickness is achieved.
    3.Then put the rolled holige onto a medium hot tawa(the side opposite to the butterpaper should touch the tawa)
    Slowly & carefully lift the butterpaper starting from one corner to th other end.
    4.Cook on both sides applying oil or ghee.

    Serve hot with ghee or milk.
